National Recycling Awards 2022
We attended the National Recycling Awards 2022 yesterday. Our clients Freshpak Chilled Foods and Deep Blue Restaurants – Gourmet Burger Kitchen were nominated an amazing five times in this year’s awards. While we didn’t take home the trophy, we are pleased to announce Fresh Pak was highly commended in the Recycling Excellence Category. A testament to the hard work put in by the clients and their Corporate Sustainability Manager.
Speaking about the awards, our Head of External Affairs, Dave Gudgeon said “We’re delighted for our clients, having our partners efforts be recognised multiple times this year for various awards, shows the extraordinary contribution in the manufacturing and food & drink industry that they’ve achieved. Gourmet Burger Kitchen & Freshpak have worked extremely hard with their on-site waste management, ensuring they’re using the best sustainable solutions and we believe that they do a fantastic job. I’d like to thank MRW Awards for hosting the evening, highlighting our industry agendas, and promoting sustainable, responsible, innovative business practices for the waste industry.”
The National Recycling Awards, run by Materials Recycling World, are regarded as the most prestigious in the industry’s calendar and this year took place at the Wembley Park Plaza Hotel. The five nominations in total across three different categories are a testament to the challenging work and dedication of all staff here, but a special mention must go to the tireless efforts of our Sustainability Managers, who developed key relationships with our clients and deliver hard, but obtainable environmental aspirations.

Freshpak Chilled Foods & Deep Blue Restaurants showed that challenging work and ambitious environmental targets will be recognised. Our clients were nominated in three categories, Food Initiative, Partnership and Recycling excellence.
Freshpak Chilled Foods were highly commended for their innovative approach to resource management. They’ve already won two gold Green Apple Awards this year and have been nominated for further awards in the Food Manufacture Excellence Awards. Their intense focus on inverting the waste hierarchy and reducing their Scope 3 carbon footprint is why they received such high praise from the judges.
Deep Blue Restaurants and Gourmet Burger Kitchen also a Gold and Silver awards winner this year in the Green Apple Awards for best practice and food and drink industry competed against other tough competitors in their own categories, but their effort and engagement through on-site recycling has clearly been recognised by the judges by getting this far.
